PostSharp Compiler crashing on project build

Hi, I have been attempting to implement PostSharp into a project to test how we can use it - however each time I have tried to build the solution with PostSharp in, the PostSharp compiler crashed. In order to see if it was our project or not I created a new console app project and referenced in PostSharp, this also crashed the PostSharp compiler on building.

To see if my install of PostSharp was corrupt I uninstalled and removed all references before reinstalling and adding back in the PostSharp references, the issue still persists however. I have attached the Windows Error Report and pasted the crash dump below:

    Hello,

could you please attach diagnostic build log (run msbuild YourSolution.sln /t:Rebuild /v:diag > postsharp.log 2>&1 from the developer command line)?

    Thanks a lot!

    Best regards,
    Daniel

    Hello,

for some reason the PostSharp pipe server does not properly start (thus the crash) and the build then fails.

Could you please run the following and again send us the log?

    msbuild YourSolution.sln /t:Rebuild /p:PostSharpHost=Native /v:diag > postsharp.log 2>&1

It switches the compilation from a server model to individual processes for each project compilation. This affects the performance but may help us to diagnose the problem better or remove it if the problem is related to hosting only.

Also, would it be possible to create a minidump of postsharp-net40-x86-srv.exe process? You can do that from either by right clicking the crashed process in task manager (Create dump file) or by attaching to the process with Visual Studio and selecting Debug -> Save dump as....

    Thanks again.

    Best regards,
    Daniel

Alright, I have run that for you and can confirm it still crashes, I have attached the new build log and a dump file for you to examine.

    Frank

    Hello,

the error (0xC0000005 - access violation) occurs before Postsharp actually starts. Again not much can be deduced from the log.

Have you tried running the compilation from administrator command prompt?
Have you tried running it on another machine?

    I apologize for the inconvenience.

    Thanks.

    Best regards,
    Daniel

    Hi,

I have tried running it all on administrator and the same error occurs, as for running it on another machine, a colleague on Windows 10 has no issues whereas my Windows 7 machine does, I am trying to obtain another machine with Windows 7 but am currently unable to so I will post a response again when I have.

    Regards,
    Frank

I guess this is an issue with loading the CLR, so there may be something corrupted on your machine. We're waiting for the result of your test on a different machine.
